Education & Experience
Declan grew up in Dublin watching his father—a retired electrician—maintain their Victorian terrace. That hands-on learning sparked his interest in the trades. After leaving school at sixteen, he completed a four-year apprenticeship at Ballymun Training Centre in Dublin, focusing on plumbing and general household maintenance. It was proper training, not just shadowing. He learned the foundations.
For over a decade now, he's worked directly with homeowners across Dublin, Cork, and Galway. We're talking 3,000+ home repair consultations. Throughout this time, he noticed the same pattern over and over: Irish homeowners lacked confidence tackling basic repairs. They'd pay premium rates for jobs they could handle themselves—replacing a washer, clearing a drain, changing a socket cover. That gap bothered him.
So he started documenting his techniques. He'd share knowledge through local community groups, help neighbors tackle projects, and gradually build up his teaching experience. Eventually, Trading CZ Ltd noticed what he was doing and asked him to develop their foundational home repair curriculum. He's now trained over 200 homeowners in DIY techniques specifically suited to Irish housing stock.
His approach is straightforward: respect safety standards (especially around electrical work), understand the specific challenges Irish homes present, and make practical instruction accessible to everyone. He doesn't believe in shortcuts. He believes every homeowner should have the skills and confidence to handle routine maintenance.

How He Works
No Shortcuts on Safety
Electrical work especially requires respect. We don't teach you to become an electrician—we teach you the safe procedures for basic tasks. There's a difference, and we're clear about where the line is.
Specific to Irish Homes
Generic DIY advice doesn't work for Irish housing. Victorian terraces have different challenges than modern semis. We teach solutions that actually fit the homes people live in here.
Hands-On Learning
You don't learn plumbing from videos alone. You need to understand the why behind each step, practice the techniques, and build real confidence. That's how he teaches.
Practical, Not Fancy
He'll tell you exactly what tools you need and what's unnecessary. No upselling. Just the basics to do the job properly. A quality hammer beats a toolbox full of gadgets.
